Use of incorrect terminology to refer to illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank

"It is highly alarming that a CBC host would use this incorrect terminology in a broadcast to describe areas in the occupied West Bank. In effect, the CBC falsely claimed that this territory belonged to Israel."

CBC self-censors Israeli Defence Minister Gallant's deragatory rhetoric against Palestinians

"Gallant’s statement is pregnant with significance and intent.  As you may know, such dehumanizing language is often a precursor to literal genocidal, and CBC and the Associated Press should NOT have self-censored this language from its coverage.  I insist, therefore, that you incorporate this quote, and highlight the appalling implications for Palestinians."

Decontextualizing the Palestinian struggle against Israel’s brutal military occupation

"This is an important breaking story to cover, but the CBC and Reuters must acknowledge this core contextual information.  When two parties to the conflict specifically cite this context, your failure to do so is a reflection of lazy journalism."

Article uses harmful “terrorism” rhetoric against Palestinians

"That this language is being repeated more than two months after my last complaint only further establishes the pattern that the CBC’s language around Israeli attacks on Palestinian refugee camps is at risk of being characterized as having a bias over time."

Failure to describe Israel‘s killing of Palestinians as “assassinations”

"I insist that you state that Israel’s actions do not qualify as “targeted killings” but as “extrajudicial assassinations” as a result of which civilians are also killed or injured, in the interests of accuracy and professional ethics."

Article lacks context on origin of Palestinian refugees

"Of course, the Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp is precisely a refugee camp, and effort should have been undertaken in citing this example to identify and report this family’s point of origin, most likely in the Galilee."

CJPME submits complaint about the use of harmful "terrorism" language

"As documented below, over a roughly 28-hour time period last week, CBC's coverage of Israel’s military invasion of the Jenin refugee camp consistently referred to Palestinians in the camp as "terrorists" or to Jenin itself as a “terror hub.” This language, directly adopted from the Israeli military, was presented to Canadian audiences without sufficient skepticism or counter-claims by journalists or others. This terminology was imprecise, misleading, defamatory and dehumanizing."

Limited quotes from groups leading case against Naftali Bennett in CBC

"It is important that the CBC update the article with comment from at least one of the sponsoring groups to give readers more insight into the sentiments of the groups themselves. This simple update would measurably improve the quality of the article."

Thanks for shedding light on Palestinian-Canadian rapper and producer Belly and his music career

"I really appreciate that you brought attention to Belly, being one of many talented Palestinian Canadians. It is important for Canadian audiences to hear and read about the stories of immigrants from diverse backgrounds."

Biased and one-sided news segment regarding Israel's airstrikes on the Gaza Strip

"You lead by citing the intentions of the Israeli military. That they “targeted three senior Islamic Jihad commanders” and that they called their airstrikes “pinpoint.” You made a point of adding an emphatic “but.” After citing official Israeli military sources, you continued, “but at least 10 civilians, including four children were also killed.” It could hardly be graver. Many in the international community are already calling this attack, and others by Israel against Gazans, war crimes."
