Thank you for your recent interview with Ambassador Mona Abuamara

It is unusual to read such a thorough account of a Palestinian perspective in Canadian media. That said, this article helps balance a media environment that rarely platforms Palestinians, except when covering their suffering.

Lack of Pro-Palestine Voices in CTV’s One-Sided Coverage of Capital Pride

"I strongly urge you to use the term 'pro-Palestine' when referring to statements or actions that explicitly support the rights of the Palestinian people and their land. This is not merely a matter of semantics; it is about recognizing the existence and the humanity of an entire nation that continues to struggle under Israel’s brutal occupation. Your choice of language has a significant impact on public perception, and it is essential that it reflects fairness."

Could have used more OCDSB perspectives

"While Ms. Perez effectively covered the conflict between the OCDSB school board and the Capital Pride committee, the article would have benefited from including perspectives from more members of the OCDSB board, rather than solely focusing on Dr. Nili Kaplan-Myrth. For future coverage of this story, I recommend that CTV Ottawa include a broader range of interviews with other board members to provide a more balanced view."

Right of reply request: Recent guest makes numerous false claims

"While the credentials of the guest were supposed to suffice in presenting a balanced view of a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, the interview ended up being one-sided and inaccurate."

Why does your headline fail to mention that Israel killed 19 Palestinians in Gaza?

"It is very clear that CTV News has closed itself off from having meaningful dialogue with its readers. Considering this lack of responsiveness and accountability, I am curious whether there is a more useful contact at CTV News. If so, please pass it on. Otherwise, I would appreciate a direct confirmation that CTV News is not interested in engaging with constructive feedback or improving its reporting practices."

CTV News: Specify that the Anti-Defamation League is a pro-Israel organization

"The ADL is not merely a Jewish advocacy organization but one that explicitly supports Israel’s Zionist project. It has a history of labeling Palestinian rights movements as antisemitic, conflating anti-Zionism with antisemitism. Palestinian rights movements are demonstrating against Israel’s settler colonial project in Palestinian territories and its apartheid system, not against Judaism itself."

CTV: Please specify that the Anti-Defamation League is a pro-Israel organization

"You refer to the Hamas 1988 Charter to say that Hamas’ goal is the destruction of the state of Israel. Hamas adopted a new charter in 2017, which indicated its struggle against Zionists and does not call explicitly for the destruction of Israel, as you report."

Are Yemeni casualties not worth reporting on?

"While you write that the Houthi drone strike in Tel Aviv was “deadly,” you omit to mention any details about Israel’s strikes in the port of Hodeida."

Omitting to mention the Nuseirat massacre is another example of Palestinian dehumanization

"First, while you merely give voice to Republican critics of the initiative, it would have been more appropriate to give other critics more space to make your article more balanced."

CBC Article about discrimination doesn't mention anti-Palestinian Racism

"I take issue with your claim that "Israeli forces advanced deeper into the Gaza Strip's largest city in pursuit of militants who had regrouped there, sending thousands of Palestinians fleeing on Monday from an area ravaged in the early weeks of the nine-month-long war." Your framing essentially justifies Israel's ground offensive as "pursuing militants" and fails to raise any skepticism or critical analysis of whether this statement by the Israeli military is factual. Palestinians are not “fleeing” because of militants; they are forcibly displaced because of Israel’s genocidal actions against Palestinians in Gaza. Israel’s direct actions have caused the mass displacement of Palestinians in the strip. It is crucial to include this context to inform the audience accurately."
