If AP is not willing to assign blame on Hezbollah for the rocket attack in the Occupied Golan Heights, how can Global News do so?
"Writing 'in retaliation' attributes responsibility to Hezbollah for the killing of 12 children in the Occupied Golan Heights. At the time of writing, this claim remains meaningfully disputed."

"While your article reported that the police could not say if the current hate incident was related to an Islamophobic or anti-Muslim hate incident earlier in the month, later in the article, you mention that the Palestinian solidarity encampment and University staff were meeting with members of the Muslim community."
Read moreThank you Times Columnist for your article highlighting Anti-Muslim hate incident
"While anti-Muslim hate crimes are often underreported in media, it was a relief to read an article that reported on a recent anti-muslim hate crime at UVic Multifaith Centre amidst the rise of Islamophobia in Canada since October 7."

"If the U.S. were committed to a ceasefire, they would not make such public statements and actions that indicate, on the opposite, that they are prepared to support Israel in its plans. One should present a more balanced and accurate portrayal of the U.S.’s position as it causes prejudice and demonizes the other parties implicated, such as Iran."
Read moreQuestionable framing of JNF reforestation effort merits clarification by the CBC
"The first sentence about JNF activity is followed by a concessive clause, suggesting that the first sentence is meant to be read as a positive. That JNF built playgrounds and reforested parts of Israel is presented by the journalist as a good thing. Unfortunately, to present JNF's reforestation efforts in a positive light contradicts CBC’s own reporting on the grim truth about Israel’s greenwashing efforts."
Read moreCBC article mischaracterizes ICJ findings
"Contrary to the headline and opening paragraph, the ICJ did not merely find that 'Israeli settlement policies' in Palestinian territories violate international law, but rather that 'the State of Israel’s continued presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory [which includes the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem, not merely settlements] is unlawful.' To frame the article as being specifically about settlement policy, rather than about occupation in a much larger sense, is to fundamentally mischaracterize the nature of this ruling."

On July 19, 2024, CBC wrote to inform CJPME that it had modified both a headline and content of an article in response to our complaint. The article had claimed that the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) Advisory Opinion ruled Israel’s “settlement policy” unlawful, when in fact the Court found that Israel’s entire occupation of all Palestinian territories, including the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza is illegal.
The headline was changed from “ICJ finds Israeli settlement policies in Palestinian territories breach international law” to “ICJ says Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories is illegal.” The article itself was updated to reflect this distinction.
CJPME considers this a significant change and appreciates CBC setting the record straight on the ICJ’s groundbreaking findings.
Why did AP and Globe and Mail leave out important elements of context about the protest outside Congress?
"By focusing on Netanyahu’s visit and speech, the article turned the attention away from the fact that Israel is still waging its genocide. Failing to mention this essential piece of information emphasizes the importance of adding context and illustrates how controversial his visit and speech were."

"While I thank you for giving space to Palestinian students by quoting them, I take issue with this sentence in particular: 'but now she and other students are feeling a bit of hope as students and faculty at Al Aqsa University and Gaza University are resuming some classes virtually despite shaky internet connections and near-constant danger around them.'"
