This passage omits important key context. Students in Canada and all across North America organized encampments to demand that their universities divest from weapons manufacturers and companies complicit in Israel’s genocide. These are the same companies that produce parts for F-35 fighter jets used in the bombardment of Palestinians in Gaza. This context is critical for readers to understand why encampments happened in the first place.

There is a double standard and lack of context in this passage. While it is mentioned that 20 Israeli hostages were released as part of phase one of the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, it fails to mention that the same agreement included the release of around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees from Israeli prisons.

While the author allows Canadian politicians to vent outrage at the “heinous terrorist attacks” of Oct. 7th, there is not a syllable acknowledging the two years of genocide endured by Palestinians. For 735 days we saw 735 relentless massacres of innocents in Gaza. This fact cannot be left out of the article if you are going to mention October 7th multiple times.

Since May, Israel has been controlling the deadly and chaotic, and highly limited, distribution of food through the so-called US-Israel backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, with the Gaza Ministry of Health reporting that there have been 2,018 fatalities and more than 14,947 injuries between May 27 and August 21, 2025 among people trying to access food supplies.

The so-called “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation,” backed by the U.S., operates under the guise of aid distribution but in practice functions as a death trap where Palestinians are faced with live ammunition while seeking food. Palestinians are not merely starving in a vacuum- they are being starved by Israel. This essential context must be included.

Using the words “retaliatory offensive” is irresponsible and grossly misleading. Killing 65,000 people and starving 2 million is not retaliatory. It is pure genocidal aggression and must be reported as such. 

References to Israel’s “divine decree” must therefore be contextualized with a Palestinian perspective: that such claims are used to justify the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians and the expansion of illegal Jewish settlements.

Q4P-O is standing up for resistance to oppression, discrimination and hatred. These are core values of Pride and the parade is the most appropriate place and time to express them. Clearly something Mr. Sutcliffe does not want to understand.

Yet, the article left out the insidious reasons why “conditions in the Palestinian enclave [have] descended further into hunger and desperation” and why there is a “struggle to find food”.
