Correction needed to specify that Palestinians in Gaza aren't "food insecure", they're being starved!

"In that case, I would recommend alternating between the names listed above. Referring to Gaza and Palestine as an ambiguous “region” lacks precision and perpetuates Canadian media’s tendency to leave Palestine and its indigenous people unnamed."

CBC News Manitoba promptly edited obscure wording in recent article

On March 27, CJPME learned that CBC News Manitoba had made some changes to their article about the Mennonite Central Committee sending food to Gaza. The article repeatedly referred to the starvation crisis in Gaza as “food insecurity.” Some examples of their obscure wording can be found in the original letter addressed to the editors at CBC Manitoba. In one case, the term “food insecure” was removed from the article. In the other, CBC adjusted their wording:

The organization has five more shipments planned as the region continues to struggle with rising levels of hunger, in the wake of the war that began Oct. 7.

While CBC Manitoba did not make all our requested edits, we appreciate their prompt mitigation of poor word choice.

For the Associated Press, Palestinian testimonies seem to be worth less than Israel's claims

"Consistently giving priority to statements provided by Israel’s military and deliberately excluding testimonies provided by witnesses or Palestinian officials is a blatant double standard and perpetuates Canadian media’s tendency to assign the burden of proof to anyone but Israel."

Israeli military raid was not "around" al-Shifa hospital, but "at" al-Shifa hospital

The Associated Press still begins its article listing the supposed fruits of Israel’s operation: 170 militants killed, and 480 suspects detained. The perceived military “victory” of the operation is presented to readers before Israel’s actions are even described. Writing that Israel “stormed the building” and “forced residents to leave” barely reveals a fraction of what testimonies from Palestinians at al-Shifa have reported.

Misleading headline that depicts pro-Palestine protests and protesters falsely, unfairly, and negatively

"Readers might think that the two people who got arrested are linked to the Pro-Palestine protest, but it is not entirely the case. As reported in a CP24/CTV News article, 'Twenty-five year-old Jack Antonio Di Tomasso of Toronto has been arrested and charged with mischief, and 61-year-old David Menzies of Richmond Hill has been arrested and charged with obstruct to a peace officer and breach of peace bond'."

Article fails to mention the illegality of the sale of land on Israeli settlements in the Occupied West Bank

The sale of the land is contentious because this was the sale of land on Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, which are illegal according to international law. This land is not available for purchase by Palestinians. Your summary is, unfortunately, misleading to readers who do not already understand the contentious nature of settlements

Article falsely depicts pro-Palestinian protests as violent

"From what we know, there is no evidence to link incidents in synagogues to pro-Palestine protests. Pro-Palestine protests have also not targeted synagogues. You cannot just make these statements without evidence and generalize them as accusations. It is not only not accurate, but it is intentionally inflammatory."

Thank you for including Palestinian perspectives and shedding light on their experiences

"Thank you once again for prioritizing Palestinian perspectives. Your commitment to fair and accurate reporting is vital, and I urge you to continue this critical work. I hope you will consider my critique in future reporting on Israel and Palestine."
