Context missing in coverage of Israeli settler violence in occupied West Bank

My main concern is with the article’s framing. By emphasizing symbolic statements of condemnation, particularly from the Israeli President, the article whitewashes the material reality, especially given the well-documented role of the Israeli army in directly participating in, enabling, and protecting these attacks.

More than 2 years of Israel's genocide, CBC insists on one-sided journalism

At minimum, the segment should have acknowledged that many of the Palestinian bodies previously returned have shown signs of torture, malnutrition, and abuse, some discovered blindfolded for days.

Serious Concerns Regarding Bias and Balance in Journalism

I also didn’t realize that Israelis could hear it. What you have highlighted here is that Israelis don’t have to listen to the sound of their war crimes any longer — except Israel has already violated the ceasefire of this so-called “peace deal” several times. I would imagine they are still hearing it and are able to go about their day all the same.

Article breaches journalistic balance

There is not a single mention of the designated terrorist groups actually operating inside of Canada and impacting the lives of Canadians, like the Proud Boys, Blood and Honour and Combat 18 — all white supremacist, neo-Nazi groups.

Article frames Israel as the victim

"This is the press, an irresponsible press. It will make the criminal look like he's the victim and make the victim look like he's the criminal. If you aren't careful the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." Malcolm X. 1964

Bias toward Israel in Canadian Press article

"Midway through the piece there is this passage, “Hamas militants attacked Israel, resulting in the deadliest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.” This point is only half the story. You should also be informing your readers “since October 8th, Israel has massacred more Palestinians than since the beginning of recorded time”.  Fair is fair."

Concerns about this morning's Israel-Iran segment on CKVU

"In presenting only Israel’s view of Iran’s nuclear capabilities, and in not questioning the legality of Israel’s actions, the segment legitimizes Israel’s and the U.S. 's escalatory military action against Iran, without criticism. The segment would have benefited from expert analysis and more balanced, factual reporting, as laid out in a recent CJPME fact sheet."

CBC segment misrepresents Marc Carney’s position on Palestine

"By airing only this partial quote, the CBC segment risks whitewashing Carney’s stance, leaving listeners with the false impression that he is advocating for peace. In reality, his vision legitimizes the position of the occupier—one that aligns with Israel’s ongoing genocide, apartheid, and dispossession of Palestinians."

Lack of context regarding Israel’s unprovoked attacks on Iran

"I urge your newsroom to correct your reporting on the escalations between the two countries. Future coverage must include balanced sourcing, critical context, and the perspectives of those most affected by the violence, particularly Iranian civilians. Failing to do so makes your coverage an opinion piece and not a credible journal article."

CBC News gives Israeli ambassador free rein to spread propaganda

On May 22, 2025, CBC News aired a deeply troubling interview with Israel’s ambassador to Canada, Iddo Moed. The segment failed to meet basic journalistic standards, offering a platform for unchallenged Israeli propaganda while erasing Palestinian suffering. We encourage our media responders to hold CBC accountable for its complicity in dehumanizing Palestinians.
