Omission of casualty counts and misrepresentation of "intifada"

"While you do acknowledge the meaning of the word as “shaking of oppression,” you frame intifada in terms of violence. Such framing is highly reductive, as intifadas were not solely characterized by violence but were multifaceted social and political movements involving a wide range of tactics (largely peaceful)."

CTV News Ottawa slanders pro-Palestine demonstrations

CTV News Ottawa’s reporting lacks any context or balance and is exceptionally unfair to pro-Palestine demonstrators. Even the headline gives a negative impression of the protest. This article is a prime example of the problems with Canadian coverage of demonstrations supporting Palestine.

Re: “Jewish students are being forced to weigh a new factor when choosing universities”

The reality is that millions of people in the West are increasingly weary of Israel’s apartheid policies and oppose its genocidal campaign against Gazans. This should be the story we read every day in the news, but it is more than rare.

Article fails to provide context about pro-palestine protest

This article failed to explain the underlying context of the protests, leaving readers without a clear understanding of the demonstrators' motives. Merely labeling the protests as a "demonstration about the war between Israel and Hamas" fails to clarify who the protestors are, their specific demands, or the reasons behind their street blockades.

Article about pro-Palestine demonstration doesn't give voice to pro-Palestine protesters

It is your journalistic obligation to include voices from the protesters and organizers themselves to balance the record. Please include them. Otherwise, it makes it seem like the protesters were provoking Toronto Police and that its excessive use of force was justified.

33,000 Palestinians have been killed, not "tens of thousands"

The suffering of Palestinians is the killing, injuring, and starving of Palestinians, not an unnamed group of people. When referencing casualties, injuries, or any other measure of suffering, please cite specific numbers and state clearly which side they are on.

News segment about pro-Palestine protests fails to give voice to pro-Palestine protesters!

"To try to correct this bias, I ask that you allow a right of reply to organizers of pro-Palestine protests in Toronto, such as Palestinian Youth Movement Toronto (PYM) and Jews Say No to Genocide, who are the organizers behind the March 30 pro-Palestine protest. The reply should be of equal length to this segment."

CJPME acknowledges that our offices, located in Montreal, are on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Kanienʼkehá꞉ka (Mohawk), whose presence here reaches back to time immemorial.  CJPME recognizes the Kanienʼkehá꞉ka as the customary keepers and defenders of the St. Laurence River Watershed and its tributaries. We honour their long history of welcoming many Nations to this beautiful territory and uphold and uplift the voice and values of our Host Nation.  Further, CJPME respects and affirms the inherent and Treaty Rights of all Indigenous Peoples across this land. CJPME has and will continue to honour the commitments to self-determination and sovereignty we have made to Indigenous Nations and Peoples.  CJPME also acknowledges the historical oppression of lands, cultures and the original Peoples in what we now know as Canada and fervently believes that its work should contribute to the healing and decolonizing journey we all share together.
