Three years into a genocide, your article is shockingly inaccurate. I hope you will consider balancing this out by including Palestinian voices who can speak to the illegal occupation of Palestine, as well as October 7^th as it also represents the beginning of the most criminal and deadly phase of Israel’s campaign to ethnically cleanse Palestine.

Ireland, like Palestine, was once subject to British Imperial rule. The Irish faced starvation, political repression and forced migration during this period. In Palestine, Britain subcontracted its imperial rule to Israeli settlers in 1948. Since then, Israel has continued to ethnically cleans the country through repression, land confiscation, apartheid, and now genocide of the indigenous Palestinian population.

We have seen far too many politicians and journalists obscure facts and bend logic in an effort to continue their support for a genocidal apartheid state. 

This mirrors other colonial erasures, such as the Trump administration's removal of slavery references at historic sites. When governments dictate false histories, they harm victims' descendants and weaken safeguards against future atrocities. Cotler and Oliver are not only whitewashing crimes—they are poisoning the future. The irony of their claims about propaganda is lost on no one. They should be ashamed.

This passage omits important key context. Students in Canada and all across North America organized encampments to demand that their universities divest from weapons manufacturers and companies complicit in Israel’s genocide. These are the same companies that produce parts for F-35 fighter jets used in the bombardment of Palestinians in Gaza. This context is critical for readers to understand why encampments happened in the first place.

Since May, Israel has been controlling the deadly and chaotic, and highly limited, distribution of food through the so-called US-Israel backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, with the Gaza Ministry of Health reporting that there have been 2,018 fatalities and more than 14,947 injuries between May 27 and August 21, 2025 among people trying to access food supplies.

The so-called “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation,” backed by the U.S., operates under the guise of aid distribution but in practice functions as a death trap where Palestinians are faced with live ammunition while seeking food. Palestinians are not merely starving in a vacuum- they are being starved by Israel. This essential context must be included.

There is not a single mention of the designated terrorist groups actually operating inside of Canada and impacting the lives of Canadians, like the Proud Boys, Blood and Honour and Combat 18 — all white supremacist, neo-Nazi groups.
