Re: “The Jewish community’s concerns are often met with disbelief”

"Geist touts the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism, but fails to mention that this definition recklessly conflates criticism of Israel with antisemitism. Other definitions of antisemitism – the Jerusalem Declaration on Antisemitism, for example – define antisemitism while still leaving space for critics of Israel to condemn its war crimes and apartheid."

AP Article On The Globe and Mail Website That Fails to Meet Journalistic Standards

"I was disappointed with the AP article “Air strike kills 25 in southern Gaza as Israeli assault on Gaza City shuts down medical facilities” published on the Globe and Mail’s website on July 9, 2024. This article failed to meet basic journalism standards. Errors in content or context mislead the readers and the AP article had two errors in word selection: one of omission and the other of addition."

The Globe and Mail and Reuters blindly quote the IDF

"While I appreciated Ms. Farouk’s attempts at humanizing Palestinian women victims of the Israeli siege on Gaza, some of her reporting decontextualized important elements of the story by quoting the one-sided views of the Israeli state and its military without skepticism."

A 'peaceful' resolution to the encampment would be U of T's full divestment from Israeli apartheid/genocide

"Violence can manifest in its actual use and its potential use. Discouraging an act (the continuation of the encampment) with the threat of violence is inherently violent and is, by no means, peaceful."

Article presents uncorroborated Israeli claims as facts

"Journalistic accuracy depends on clearly differentiating between assertions and facts. If an assertion has not been independently verified, journalistic integrity demands it be reported as the spokesperson’s opinion or perspective, rather than as an established fact. Bearing this in mind, while Palestinian accounts are often questioned, Israel's apartheid regime is frequently regarded as credible and reliable."

Letter to the Editor: Re: "School boards shouldn’t rush into adopting anti-Palestinian racism strategies"

"Casey’s rhetorical remark questioning whether we should combat other forms of discrimination like anti-Lebanese, anti-Syrian, or anti-Iranian racism, simply because the Toronto School Board included anti-Palestinian racism in its anti-racism strategy, is egregiously offensive."

Hey Globe and Mail, Zionism is not Antisemitism

"Ms. Xu, your use of the term "Jewish teachers" fails to express any skepticism of pro-Israel groups quoted in the article, which are likely conflating criticism of Israel with antisemitism. Pro-Israel groups have a vested interest in excluding Palestinian resources critical of Israel’s egregious human rights abuses against Palestinians. It is your responsibility to provide readers with a clear understanding of the motivations behind these pro-Israel teachers' claims of “antisemitism.” This framing is not only misleading but also fails to reflect the diversity of opinions within the Jewish community, including those critical of Israeli policies. You must clarify the distinction between anti-Zionism and antisemitism."

Recent article whitewashes Israel's war crimes

"Under international law, Israel is considered an occupying power and has a responsibility of letting aid in. On top of it, Israel has closed border crossings, which is the only effective and efficient way to get aid despite multiple international calls asking Israel to open them."

“Jewish advocates” should be changed to “pro-Israel advocates” in article

Your article suggests that these two organizations and Ms. Lantsman are representative of the Jewish community and their concerns. However, this is not fair or accurate to Jewish human rights activists who are against antisemitism but yet critical of the government of Israel and its oppression and occupation of the Palestinian people.

Israel is not "fighting" in Gaza, it "occupies" it

"This blockade on both goods and people has strangled Gaza’s economy and collectively punished Palestinians living in Gaza. For this reason, many human rights NGO’s have referred to Gaza as an 'open-air prison.'"
