It is important for Canadian audiences to hear directly from Palestinians who live under an Israeli military occupation and are subjected to Israeli acts of violence and aggression as evidenced by the brutal raid on the Jenin refugee camp."

In fact we know that Israel used live fire rounds and missile attacks from drones against the densely populated refugee camp – including against journalists and health workers -- not just stun grenades and tear gas. I am puzzled why you would minimize the scale of the attack especially since you later claimed much more accurately that the camp was “destroyed” via air and land attacks.

It was refreshing to see that you included commentary from UN officials including former Special Rapporteur Michael Lynk regarding the gravity of the Israeli military’s actions, and the important context of Israeli illegal settlement expansion as a root cause of violence. In addition, the inclusion of statistics such as the number of casualties and injured among the Palestinian civilians is essential, as it allows your audience to better grasp the human cost of the Israeli military’s assault on Jenin.

"After the Gaza clip I expected to see footage of Jenin showing why Gazans were sympathising with its residents, but instead you featured an Israeli army official."

"Your segment calls the attack a “two-day operation”. The word “operation” gives the impression of being less serious and glosses over the infrastructure damage and civilian injuries and death. It once again ignores the crucial context that the Israeli military is an illegally occupying force that Palestinians are victims of."

"We were disappointed to hear the segment continuously refers to the attacks on Jenin as a “military operation.” This neutral-sounding terminology completely obscures the fact that Israel is illegally occupying the West Bank and that the Israeli army does not have any internal military jurisdiction in Jenin. The word “operation” erases the aggressive nature of these attacks. Moreover, by using Israel’s preferred language to describe this deadly attack, you are allowing the perpetrator of a crime to define how their actions are discussed, which is deeply unethical."

However, beyond being offensive to Palestinians, Ms. Makler’s characterization of Gazan rocket fire as a “victory lap” is plainly an opinion, one for which there is no evidence."
