Stop Whitewashing Israel’s Crimes in Gaza

Important context is excluded, including Israel striking, murdering and displacing Palestinians in Rafah refugee camps, the IDF’s recent slaughter of Palestinians in the Nuseirat refugee camp, and the Al-Shifa hospital massacres that happened in November and in March where Caroline El-Khalidy worked.

Article lacks context on origin of Palestinian refugees

"Of course, the Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp is precisely a refugee camp, and effort should have been undertaken in citing this example to identify and report this family’s point of origin, most likely in the Galilee."

Article fails to specify the root-cause of the cease-fire in Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp

"The result is that your readers are led to think that the onus of blame is on the Palestinians of Ein el-Hilweh – particularly when you include phrases emphasizing, and I quote, how the camp (rather than those who made it necessary) 'is notorious for its lawlessness'. Yet it is precisely the refusal of Israel to abide by Resolution 194 of the United Nations General Assembly that has produced this intractable crisis."

Failure to include context regarding the presence of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon

"Palestinian refugees are, by definition, refugees from somewhere. Your readers deserve to know the source and cause of Palestinian refugee questions in Lebanon: the country to the south of Lebanon is central to all Palestinian refugee developments within Lebanon".

Palestinian perspectives omitted in article about Eritrean migrants and refugees in Israel

"It is startling and extraordinary that you have published a full article on refugee politics in Israel and yet in more than eight hundreds words failed once to mention the Palestinians. Under no standard of journalistic professionalism can this possibly be justified."

Important context omitted regarding Palestinians living in Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp

"It should be mentioned that these are Palestinians who were forcibly expelled from their homes by Israel following the Nakba in 1948. AP articles typically include this type of basic contextualization when discussing events in Israel. The same treatment should be given to Palestinians living in Lebanon."

Good and inclusive coverage of the challenges that young Palestinian refugees face in refugee camps in Lebanon

Your article was excellent in highlighting the challenges that young Palestinian refugees face, especially in Lebanon where they endure restrictions but also suffer from the ongoing economic crisis. I appreciate that you included a variety of Palestinian voices and how you emphasize the resilience of these individuals despite the obstacles they experience in finding jobs, pursuing their interests and in enjoying their basic human rights.

Thanks for highlighting the experiences of Palestinian refugees and the challenges of resettling in a new country

"Palestinian perspectives are often silenced or deliberately left out of Canadian public discourse, especially stories of vulnerable individuals like Islam Meghari who are resettling in a completely new environment. More importantly, the challenges that refugees and immigrants face such as job security, separation from families, language barriers, and racism and prejudice are seldom reported on or shared."

Failure to mention the Nakba and Israel's military occupation of the West Bank

"The brief summary omits any mention of the Nakba ("catastrophe" in Arabic), when approximately 750,000 to 1 million Palestinians were expelled from their homes by Zionist militias and internally displaced to the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. Thus, UNRWA was created in 1949 to help facilitate and provide services to this displaced population. Moreover, the reason that the agency continues to exist today is because Israel refuses to allow those refugees the right to return, in violation of international law."
