Article incorrectly characterizes the Israeli army as an "apolitical melting pot"

"However, I take exception to your use of the term ‘apolitical melting pot’ to describe the Israeli armed forces. This is factually incorrect and misleading to your readers."

Article uses misleading language to describe the death of a Palestinian teenager

"To be clear, we certainly welcome all reporting that lays bare atrocities against oppressed peoples without justification or obfuscation—much like the article’s headline does. The imprecise language and framing used within the body of the piece, however, obscures the reality of such horrors if not outright legitimizes them."

Article uses misleading and inaccurate language regarding Israel’s military occupation of the west bank

I have mentioned several times in the past in letters of concern that I and my colleagues have sent to you that the use of words such as “seized” or “captured” when describing Israel’s occupation of the west bank is misleading and inaccurate for several reasons.

Failure to include essential context about Israeli Minister Bezalel Smotrich's racist and discriminatory language towards Palestinians

Your article should have gone further to mention some of the specific racist comments about Palestinians that he has recently made, including his statement that “there is no such thing as a Palestinian people” or calling for the “erasure” of the village of Huwara.

Thank you for including the daily struggles experienced by Palestinians upon entering and exiting Gaza

Including Palestinian voices and mentioning the obstacles and difficulties they experience in entering or exiting Gaza, even as American citizens, allows your readers to have an insight into the daily struggles experienced by Palestinians. The experience of Gazans has unfortunately been overlooked by other media outlets in their coverage of this issue.

Failure to specify that Israel’s environmental apartheid affects Palestinians in Gaza

"I am disappointed to see that your article, which focuses on the environmental impact of the use of plastic bags in Gaza, completely disregards Israel’s environmental exploitation in Palestine/Israel which disproportionately affects Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied territories."

Article fails to include essential context about Likud and its views on Palestinian statehood

"Because of the above sentence, and the language used in the article in general, many readers would presumably conclude that Edelstein and his Likud party or Israel's governing coalition, then, might be flexible on the issue of Palestinian statehood. This is, however, not the case at all, and readers ought to know."

Article inaccurately refers to Palestinian citizens of Israel as "Arab-Israelis"

"Your use of the terms “Arab” and “Arab-Israeli,” instead of “Palestinian citizens of Israel” is puzzling. You mention throughout your reporting that these “Arabs” are descendants of Palestinians and self-identify as Palestinian citizens of Israel. Why then do you choose to dilute their identity by constantly referring to them as Arabs?"

One-sided reporting and misleading language used to describe Hamas

"I urge you to update this article, either removing the description of Hamas as an 'Islamist militant group', and/or to add that Hamas 'governs the Gaza Strip, providing social services and running media outlets'."

Inaccurate and misleading language regarding Israel's killing of a Palestinian child in the occupied West Bank

"Your description of a “clash” obscures the Israeli military’s role in provoking the confrontation between stone throwers and heavily armed soldiers. The Israeli military uses sophisticated weapons and equipment whereas the Palestinians, as mentioned in your own coverage, were throwing stones. Your coverage obscures and downplays the asymmetrical nature of the violence."
