Appreciation for balanced reporting on pro-Palestinian activism at UVic
"In a media landscape where pro-Palestinian voices are often silenced or distorted, your inclusion of pro-Palestine voices is both refreshing and profoundly appreciated. Your article rightfully highlights the students' demands for justice—demands that call for divestment from corporations complicit in supporting Israel, cutting academic ties with Israel, and condemning the ongoing genocide of Palestinians."

"Given the political climate surrounding the summer student encampments across Canadian universities, it is highly likely that opponents of these movements, including politicians like Poilievre, will seize upon this report to discredit and dismiss the entirety student-led initiative moving forward. I genuinely hope that by sharing our findings with the Toronto Star, we can try to keep political discourse in Canada somewhat grounded in facts rather than through unverified allegations that have everyone running around with digital pitchforks online."

"I especially appreciated that you asked a question that enabled Mr. Parnes to name what he is hoping from the International community: ‘that Western countries stop condemning and start taking action’. His response highlighted what a rising number of Canadians have been demanding of our government leaders for months if not years, specifically, since October 7, that they use whatever tools and laws available to them to bring about a ceasefire."

"While a lot of human rights groups released reports on the torture of Palestinians in Israeli detention centers, it is great that CBC finally decided to cover and report on it by giving voice to Ibrahim Saleh, a Palestinian man who was tortured in the Sde Teiman torture center."

On July 22, Cornwall Standard-Freeholder published a CJPME letter to the editor (LTE).
CJPME sent a letter agreeing with an LTE published in Cornwall Standard-Freeholder about the US playing the role of the “impregnable wall” to Israel.
CJPME developed the argument further by writing an LTE about the role of US imperialism in the establishment of the State of Israel and its lifeline.

Thank The Hill Times for publishing an excellent Op-Ed that provides a balanced report on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza
"The Hill Times published an excellent Op-Ed that provides a balanced report on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. It effectively highlights the ongoing silencing and intimidation of Palestinian and pro-Palestinian voices and bravely sheds much-needed light on the stark contrast between Canada’s historical stance against apartheid in South Africa and its current silence regarding Israel’s war in Gaza."

"Mohammad Talat Naeem is right to say that the U.S. plays the role of an 'impregnable wall' when it comes to not putting pressure or sanctions on Israel. While the Israeli lobby does play a huge part in American politics, the opposite is also true. Since World War 2, the US has been the patron of Israel. It has not only metaphorically shielded Israel from any accountability, but it has also literally provided its shield by funding Israel’s Iron Dome and Israel’s arms in its long history of war crimes, with the latest being its genocide in Gaza."

"As rightly pointed out by Amira Elghawaby, the federal government’s Special Representative on Combating Islamophobia, this incident is a blatant attempt to portray Canadian Muslims and communal prayer as threatening and dangerous. Such content is undeniably Islamophobic and contributes to the growing climate of fear and hostility towards the Muslim community in Canada."

You write that “our society frowns upon the usage of the word Palestine”, and I couldn’t agree with you more. Unfortunately, mainstream media outlets in Canada have a history of being reluctant to use the word Palestine. Some never use the word at all, opting instead to only talk about “Palestinians” while excluding their land.
