False and defamatory claim about CJPME needs correction

We also reject the characterization of our organization as one that "expresses hatred." We are a human rights organization that advocates for Palestinian human rights.

Lilley on the UN

"Perhaps most offensive are Lilley’s crocodile tears over the civil war in Sudan which has displaced as many as 14.5 million people. If he really cared a whit about what was happening in Sudan, he would write about Israel’s deep security and technology ties with the UAE, the RSF's primary backer, as well as reports of Israeli surveillance tech and arms reaching the paramilitary group."

Toronto Sun removes “disputed” characterization of Gaza following CJPME complaint

On August 9, 2026, the Toronto Sun published an article by Ling Hui reporting on the Iran war and developments in Gaza. The article initially stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the Israeli military would not withdraw from the “disputed territory” until Hamas was disarmed.

CJPME media advocate Jeff Winch wrote to the Toronto Sun raising concerns about the characterization of Gaza as “disputed territory,” arguing that this innacurate wording implies that Gaza’s territorial status is unresolved and fails to reflect its status as occupied Palestinian territory.

Following CJPME’s complaint, the Toronto Sun amended the sentence. The reference to “disputed territory” was removed.

Altough a partial correction, this change removes the article’s misleading characterization of Gaza as “disputed territory.”

Toronto Sun article Aug 9, 2026

"To adhere to journalistic principles of impartiality and accuracy the article should be corrected to state that Gaza is “undisputed” Palestinian territory."

Your Piece on the Munk Debates Protests

It is beyond dispute that Warmington’s piece is beneath the dignity of any newspaper that aspires to credible journalism and that there is no choice but to retract it, immediately.
