Re:“Israel feels more like an open wound than a country these days”

"Instead of pointing out and picking apart every racist, bigoted, and fundamentally twisted thought he’s decided to express, I would just like to ask Kinsella: Do you think about Palestinian children in Gaza?"

Toronto Sun finally identifies an article as opinion

On May 6, 2024, CJPME sent an alert to MAP responders to ask them to critique Toronto Sun’s decision to publish an article by Joe Warmington about the U of T student encampment as “news.”

While we have regularly taken issue with Toronto Sun and Joe Warmington for his inflammatory columns, this particular article was not only inflammatory but violated basic journalistic standards as it was identified as “news.”

Following the huge number of letters our MAP responders sent, the article is now identified as “opinion.”

While our other issues weren’t addressed, such as his offensive description of the U of T encampment and his uncorroborated claims that it is antisemitic, it is still a notable change since our past attempts weren’t as effective. This will only encourage more to keep pushing for the respect of basic journalistic obligations to media outlets even if they are not as receptive.

Clarification needed to justify the true meaning of “Taqiyya”

As such, I demand the Toronto Sun publish a clarification of the true meaning of “Taqiyya” as founded in the writings of many Muslim scholars. Clearly, the Muslim culture is willfully misunderstood and misrepresented by Ms. Goldman so as to make such a clarification mandatory.

Re: The symbol for symbols

"I highly doubt that most Jewish people see the keffiyeh as the modern swastika since some of them wear it to send a clear message of their refusal to let genocide happen again. To claim that they see it as the modern swastika is not only anti-Palestinian racism, but it is a form of antisemitism."

Brad Hunter crosses the line, violates standards

"It is Brad Hunter’s opinions that Tabassum’s hyperlinks on social media to content about this political proposal are “anti-Semitic,” and to report on this matter in such a plainly one-sided and unfair way is unacceptable according to the standards to which Postmedia publications claim to agree to through their membership with the National NewsMedia Council."

Hamas should not be called a "terrorist" group in an article labelled as news

"Considering that most of Israel’s actions in Gaza both before and after Oct. 7 qualify as terrorism, labeling Hamas’ actions as terrorism but not Israel’s is a blatant double standard."

MAP Alert: Toronto Sun lies that protester wore "mock suicide vest"

The obvious cases of racism in this article cross the line, even if it had been published initially as opinion. Please draft an email addressed to Warmington and the editor at Toronto Sun telling them that this kind of anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab reporting is a racist breach of standards.

MAP Alert: Toronto Sun op-ed portrays pro-Palestine demonstrator carrying smoke canisters as a "suicide-bomber"

The obvious cases of racism in this article cross the line, even as an opinion article. Please draft an email addressed to Warmington and the editor at Toronto Sun telling them that this kind of anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab reporting is deplorable.

Numerous false claims in recent op-ed require correction or clarifcation

"Third, Hamas has not diverted “hundreds of billions of dollars in international aid to build” military installations. There is no evidence to support this wild figure. This is a pure fabrication. If I am wrong, please provide clear evidence to support the assertion."

USCPR Toolkit wasn't "leaked," it's readily available on their website

"Kinsella repeatedly refers to a “secret plan” that was “leaked” to him: a document that comes from the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights’ (USCPR). However, the document is not secret at all."
