Another poor broadcast segment on the occupied West Bank
"This is also a major double standard on the part of your newsroom. Imagine describing Russia's actions in Ukraine using Kremlin terminology such as using the term “special military operation” instead of “war.” It would rightly be condemned as irresponsible. The same standard should be applied to Palestinians in the West Bank."

"There are fears from local authorities in Jenin that what is happening in Jenin and the rest of the West Bank is part of a much bigger plan to annex the Occupied West Bank. Global News should clarify their report that Israel has shown no clear evidence that it is “targeting terrorist infrastructure” in Jenin."

"This framing uncritically repeats the Israeli military’s narrative of a counterterrorism operation without questioning its proportionality or compliance with international law. For instance, the article whitewashes the Israeli military’s actions by blindly repeating their justifications for “raids” through the claim that they are targeting "militants" despite there being supporting evidence indicating otherwise. Furthermore, the article barely includes any Palestinian perspectives which contributes to this one-sided reporting that heavily relies on the claims made by an occupying force."

"As a public broadcaster, CityNews has a responsibility to provide fair, accurate, and comprehensive reporting. For future coverage, I demand that you include detailed accounts of the devastating impacts these raids have on Palestinian civilians. You must also provide balanced reporting that critically examines claims made by the Israeli military and include Palestinian voices."

"The term “captured” suggests a sense of permanence or legal legitimacy to Israel’s control, which is contrary to the principles of international law. In contrast, “occupied” reflects the ongoing military control of these areas, as consistently described by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the UN. Failing to use the correct term misleads readers and undermines the accuracy and integrity of your reporting."

The National aired a remarkable news segment exposing Israeli settler violence in the occupied West Bank, the illegality of Israel’s settlements on Palestinian territories, and Israel’s forced displacement of Palestinians from their land. In a media landscape often marked by the silencing of Palestinian voices, CBC broke the trend by courageously shedding light on the injustices Palestinians are enduring, setting an inspiring precedent for fair and accurate reporting.

"This feature on Canadian forces’ work in the West Bank omits the context of occupation and apartheid, undermining the accuracy and balance of the coverage. The headline and content fail to refer clearly to the West Bank as occupied. The article mentions occupation only in a photo caption, overlooking a critical aspect of international law which views Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories as illegal."

"Watching your segment deeply resonated with me on a personal level. My grandfather is from southern Lebanon and was displaced due to Israel’s expansion of its genocide in occupied Gaza into Lebanon. October is a season of harvest, much as it is for others — a time for gathering olives to produce oil and soap. For us, the olive harvest is not only a yearly tradition of collecting olives, it represents our connection to the land and is a symbol of resistance — reminding us to stay steadfast in the face of hardship much like the olive tree that endures even the harshest of winters."

Even more troubling, Ms. Jabakhanji makes an unfounded and racist assertion that Palestinians watch and celebrate missile strikes on Israel, while Israelis seek shelter in bomb bunkers. This type of harmful editorializing misrepresents the Palestinian experience and perpetuates anti-Palestinian racism.
