Re: “Israel to Its Citizens: Be Armed and Alert in Public to Foil Terrorist Attackers”
The notion that more guns and armed civilians in Israel will lead to greater safety is not only misguided but downright dangerous. A more sustainable and just solution lies in ending the apartheid policies that have been in place in Israel for decades and respecting the basic human rights of Palestinians.
The current situation is untenable. Palestinians are living under a brutal system of apartheid that denies them basic human rights, including the right to freedom of movement and self-determination. Meanwhile, Israeli settlers continue to occupy their land with impunity, disregarding international law, as the new far-right government enacts discriminatory laws and policies to further marginalize Palestinians.
By ending apartheid, demanding Israel respect international law, and granting Palestinians the same rights as Israelis, we can begin to address the root causes of the conflict and work towards a more just and peaceful future for all.
