The Media Accountability Project

Sign up as a "Media Responder"

CJPME's Media Accountability Project (MAP) team is looking for "Media Responders": individuals who can help hold Canadian media accountable for fair coverage on the Middle East, especially on the topic of Israel-Palestine. Media Responders will receive occasional "media alerts" from the MAP highlighting problematic articles in Canadian media, and asking responders to write or call the responsible journalists, producers or editors.

While there are no “hard and fast” qualifications for involvement, being a Media Responder is a privilege and opportunity, and individuals signing up for the Media Centre must agree to professional conduct as defined in the MAP’s “Terms of Participation.” As a Media Responder, you can help out in several ways:

  1. Respond to media alerts.  Alerts are issued no more than once or twice a week, and Responders are asked to participate in the media alerts as frequently as possible.  Once signed up, responders will be given the information necessary to develop and send a response.
  2. Inform the MAP team of any interesting developments in your media advocacy work.  You may get a letter published, or an opinion posted in the media as a result of your participation with the MAP.  We kindly ask you to inform our team so we can highlight such successes.

CJPME acknowledges that our offices, located in Montreal, are on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Kanienʼkehá꞉ka (Mohawk), whose presence here reaches back to time immemorial.  CJPME recognizes the Kanienʼkehá꞉ka as the customary keepers and defenders of the St. Laurence River Watershed and its tributaries. We honour their long history of welcoming many Nations to this beautiful territory and uphold and uplift the voice and values of our Host Nation.  Further, CJPME respects and affirms the inherent and Treaty Rights of all Indigenous Peoples across this land. CJPME has and will continue to honour the commitments to self-determination and sovereignty we have made to Indigenous Nations and Peoples.  CJPME also acknowledges the historical oppression of lands, cultures and the original Peoples in what we now know as Canada and fervently believes that its work should contribute to the healing and decolonizing journey we all share together.
