"Your article fails to specify that 'Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa mosque' is in fact in occupied East Jerusalem, and considered occupied Palestinian territory. This is not an opinion but a matter of settled consensus at the international level as confirmed by the United Nations Security Council, the International Criminal Court, the International Court of Justice, and the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention. Considering CBC’s high stature, it is frankly very disappointing that this critical information was left out of your news article."

Dear Mr. Raycraft, Mr. Fenlon, Ms. Ito and Mr. Achi,
I’m writing to you on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME, https://www.cjpme.org) to request an immediate correction regarding your news article titled “Trudeau calls for peace following Israeli raid of mosque,” published by CBC News on April 5, 2023.
I appreciate your coverage of the recent attack by Israeli forces against Palestinian worshippers in the Al-Aqsa Mosque. It is crucial for Canadian audiences to be aware of this violent raid, and the Canadian government’s response. However, your reporting omits key and critical information, and this error must be corrected.
First, your article fails to specify that “Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa mosque” is in fact in occupied East Jerusalem, and considered occupied Palestinian territory. This is not an opinion but a matter of settled consensus at the international level as confirmed by the United Nations Security Council, the International Criminal Court, the International Court of Justice, and the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention. Considering CBC’s high stature, it is frankly very disappointing that this critical information was left out of your news article.
As such, I insist that you make a correction to your sentence which should state: “Reuters reported Israeli police raided Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa mosque, located in Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem, before dawn on Wednesday…”
Second, while you do mention that Israeli police raided the mosque to “clear groups police said were barricaded inside,” you fail to mention that they fired stun grenades, brutally beat Palestinian worshippers and arrested at least 400 Palestinians. This is critical information that must be included in any good reporting of Wednesday’s raid.
As such, I insist that you add the following sentence: “Inside the mosque, Israeli police forces fired stun grenades, beat worshippers and arrested at least 400 Palestinians.”
Thank you for making these changes. Should you wish, you can contact me at 438-380-5410 for more information.
Sincerely,
Reem Majid
