Strong coverage of Palestinian-Canadians rallying against Israeli violence at Al-Aqsa Mosque

"I am especially pleased that your coverage included an interview with the human rights activist Mousa Qasqas. Often enough, Palestinian perspectives are silenced or deliberately left out of Canadian public discourse, especially when they criticize policies and established power structures."

Ziyah Karmali, Anchor, CTV Morning Live Edmonton

Dear Ms. Karmali,

I’m writing to you on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME, https://www.cjpme.org) to express my appreciation for a news segment aired by CTV Morning Live Edmonton on April 10, 2023.

I would like to thank you for including a segment that highlighted Palestinian-Canadians rallying against the recent Israeli violence at Al-Aqsa Mosque.

I am especially pleased that your coverage included an interview with the human rights activist Mousa Qasqas. Often enough, Palestinian perspectives are silenced or deliberately left out of Canadian public discourse, especially when they criticize policies and established power structures.

I would like to point out, however, that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is located in East Jerusalem in occupied Palestinian territory. The status of East Jerusalem as occupied Palestinian territory is firmly established under international law and has been repeatedly confirmed by various UN bodies.

I ask that all future reporting on Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Old City of Jerusalem specify that it is located in occupied Palestinian territory.

Should you wish, you can contact me at 438-380-5410 to discuss this matter further.

Sincerely,

Tayla Shair
