I’m writing to you on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME, https://www.cjpme.org) to thank you for publishing the letter to the editor titled “Canada must stand for Palestine” in the Merritt Herald on May 18, 2023.

This letter accurately covers the horrific Huwara Pogrom, Israel’s settlement expansion policy, the racism of Israel’s finance minister Bezalel Smotrich and Israel’s minister of national security Itamar Bcn-Gvir, as well as the IHCR report on Israeli apartheid. It moreover calls for Canadian leaders to take proactive measures to help the Palestinian people and speak out against Israeli apartheid.

Palestinian and pro-Palestinian perspectives are often ignored or excluded from Canadian public discourse. Publishing a letter to the editor such as this one is a positive start to sensitizing the Canadian public to Palestine, and especially to the dehumanizing treatment they endure.
