Toronto Star coverage falls short on including Palestinian Perspective

The article could also be criticized for 1) not interviewing any authoritative Palestinian sources, 2) not digging deeper into Israeli soldiers’ impunity by interviewing human rights experts, and 3) using an article title which whitewashes the issue of Israeli indifference to such abuses.

This article is not “awful.”

It is possible to thank journalist Isabel Debre for 1) highlighting the problem of Israel not holding Israeli soldiers accountable for their abuses, 2) mentioning the damning example of Shereen Abu Akleh, and 3) interviewing the family of the slain Palestinian-American man.

However, the article could also be criticized for 1) not interviewing any authoritative Palestinian sources, 2) not digging deeper into Israeli soldiers’ impunity by interviewing human rights experts, and 3) using an article title which whitewashes the issue of Israeli indifference to such abuses. You may wish to suggest an alternative title for the article: this is something that the Toronto Star has direct control over.
