On July 4, CBC Radio As It Happens with Nil Köksal and Chris Howden interviewed Mustafa Sheta, the Palestinian Director of the Freedom Theatre in Jenin.

Please write to As It Happens co-host Nil Köksal to express your appreciation for her interview of Palestinian theatre director Mustafa Sheta about Israel's military raid on the Jenin refugee camp.  The interview was about six minutes, and Mr. Sheta, director of the Freedom Theatre, was given time to describe the situation in the camp, the hardships facing Palestinians, and the Israeli abuse of his theatre. Sheta described how the Israeli military prevented displaced Palestinians within the camp from using the theatre as a site of refuge and instead turned the theatre into a military base for Israeli soldiers and their vehicles – a perspective of the military raid that has not been covered by mainstream media.

While co-host Nil Köksal’s questions were framed around the Israeli military narrative, Sheta WAS able to undermine this Israeli framing and present the raid as a means to suppress Palestinian resistance.  While the broadcast was not a "huge win," it did provide an on-the-ground Palestinian perspective, and deserves to be supported.  The show As It Happens is likely to be attacked by pro-Israel groups in the next few days, so some positive feedback to the show's staff will be very worthwhile.
