Dear Ms. Frankel, Ms. Debre, Mr. Ben Zion, Mr. Federman and Mr. Whitten,
I am writing to you on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME, https://www.cjpme.org ) to thank you for the article: “Israel’s government has passed the first part of its legal overhaul. The law’s ripples are dramatic. ” that was published online by CITYNEWS Toronto on July 26, 2023.
As your headline indicates the ‘ripple’ effects of the judicial overhaul are significant. They impact everyone living within Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory; as well as Israel’s economy and their relationship with the United States . What I appreciated about this article was that the headline matched the content and that you included a range of perspectives including Palestinian ones. The quote from Ines Abel Razek illustrated the hypocrisy and oppressive reality of Palestinian daily life: “The Israelis are fighting for freedom and democracy through institutions that are inherently preventing an entire people from freedom and democracy.
Good journalism should leave the reader feeling like they have a more complete and balanced summary of an issue. Your article certainly achieved that standard for me.
I encourage you to continue providing this quality of reporting in future articles. If you wish to discuss this futher, please don’t hesitate to contact me at 250-469-4468.
