"I really appreciated your dedication to bringing Palestinian stories to the Canadian public, including the perspectives of the Palestinian diaspora in Newfoundland. It is extremely important to share these personal stories as a way to humanize Palestinians, to amplify their voices in our communities, and to counter the ongoing denial of their experiences that we often see in society."

Dear Munpal Gazette,(Editor-in-chief of the Muse)
I’m writing to you on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME, https://www.cjpme.org) to thank you for publishing the article entitled “From Palestine to Newfoundland: A Journey of Cultural Resilience”, by Fayez Almadhoun and published by the Muse on August 7, 2023.
I really appreciated your dedication to bringing Palestinian stories to the Canadian public, including the perspectives of the Palestinian diaspora in Newfoundland. It is extremely important to share these personal stories as a way to humanize Palestinians, to amplify their voices in our communities, and to counter the ongoing denial of their experiences that we often see in society. As the article mentions, many people in Canada are not aware of the issues in Palestine, and articles like this one are what help bring more attention to Palestine today.
As someone who also traces their roots to Al-Majdal, I appreciate that the author included their grandfather’s experience in 1948, and that the article included a brief description of the Palestinian city that no longer exists. This is similar to the experiences of many Palestinians. These stories are important to hold onto and share to combat Israel’s continuous efforts to erase Palestinian history.
Should you wish, you can contact me at 438-380-5410 for more information.
Sincerely,
Yasmeen Amer
