Thanks for highlighting Palestinian displacement caused by Israeli settler violence

Dear Julia Frankel, Josef Federman and Dan Taylor,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME, https://www.cjpme.org) to thank you for your September 21 article, “UN reports says West Bank settler violence has displaced more than 1,100 Palestinians since 2022.”

Overall, the article did a fine job of outlining the important subject of Palestinian displacement by settler violence, which is rarely written about. We appreciate that it was done in a nuanced way by including Palestinian voices, which clearly illustrates the effects on their livelihoods.

We were also happy to see direct quotes from Lynn Hastings, the humanitarian coordinator for the occupied Palestinian territory, and the international community’s views, especially the US. Such reporting helps balance coverage that tends to overlook the struggles faced by Palestinians in light of settlement expansion by Israel.

We hope that AP and CTV will continue to report on this subject in a nuanced way.

Should you wish, you can contact me at 438-380-5410 for more information.

Sincerely,

Fatima Haidar,

Media Analyst, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East
