Dear Steve Bartlett, Nidal al-Mughrabi, James Mackenzie and Mark Heinrich,
I am writing to express concern about your Reuters article, “Gaza unrest sends message about economic misery under Israeli blockade,” published by Saltwire on October 4.
Your article does not fairly depict Hamas, although it is the main focus of your article. Your reference to “Gaza's ruling Islamist movement Hamas” is not an adequate description.
To be more accurate, you ought in the interests of accuracy to add this description:
- “Hamas is an Islamic, Palestinian liberation organization which governs certain aspects of the Israeli-occupied Gaza Strip, provides social services, runs media outlets, and has a military wing.”
I hope that Saltwire and Reuters will write more accurate information about Hamas in future reporting.
Should you wish, you can contact me at 438-380-5410 for more information.
Sincerely,
Fatima Haidar,
