Challenge the CBC for platforming Israeli army propaganda

Please challenge the CBC and host David Cochrane for their 16-minute broadcast of Israeli army propaganda. In an interview with the Israeli army spokesperson, Cochrane gushed “You’re not wrong,” conceding to all his points, and effectively apologizing to the IDF for the media coverage of Israeli atrocities.

This video is a severe blow to the credibility of the national broadcaster.

Some of the points you can refer to in your letter include:

  • Israel has killed more than 1,500 Palestinian children and nearly 4,000 Palestinians in total since October 7. To platform the spokesperson for this mass killing of civilians, without challenging him on the military's war crimes, is offensive and unconscionable.
  • CBC host David Cochrane’s support for the Israeli army spokesperson – “your criticism, sir, of the media is well taken” – constitutes the infliction of harm on CBC viewers, above all those with family who are being starved and bombed in Gaza by this man's organization (the IDF).
  • The choice to interview the perpetrator of alleged war crimes rather than to present Canadian viewers with the credible voices of Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, or the International Committee of the Red Cross, is bad and disreputable journalism.
  • If the CBC wants to maintain the public support it requires, it needs to do better than circulating Israeli army propaganda that attacks Palestinians with racist innuendo as “the side of darkness.”
  • Please watch the video for yourself, if you can stomach it, and politely phrase critiques in your own words rather than copying and pasting from this email -- thank you!
