Dear Fakiha Baig and Angus Scott,
I am writing to express my appreciation for the article: “ ‘Everything you can think of has been hit,’” published on October 24 in Niagara Falls Review.
The article provided much information about Gaza’s and Gazans’ reality amidst Israel’s bombardments.
I especially liked that this article gave a voice to a Gazan-Canadian on the ground in Gaza, Mansour Shouman, and that it shed light on the 400 Canadians and their families currently stuck in the Gaza Strip. I find this sentence quite indicative of Canadian authorities’ response and Canadian-Palestinians' treatment: “In Gaza, Shouman said he hasn’t heard from the Canadian embassy in days.”
I would also like to point out an inaccuracy in your article, which is the use of the term: “Hamas-run Health Ministry.” Hamas does not run the Health Ministry, and such words contribute to delegitimizing the Palestinian casualties backed by organizations such as the UN. The UN has been using the terms Gaza Ministry of Health.
I, therefore, suggest changing the words “Hamas-run Health Ministry” to “Gaza Ministry of Health” to make your article more accurate.
I hope Niagara Falls Review and Canadian Press will continue to cover Gaza’s and Gazans’ reality and give space to Palestinian voices.
Sincerely,
Fatima Haidar,
Media Analyst, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East
