"This type of language has no place in Canada, and Betty should revise the Rights and Laws of Canada since hate speech is prosecutable under Criminal law."
December 6, 2023
I cannot believe the words Betty Lynn Christiansen used to qualify the peaceful action of the pro-Palestine protesters who blocked Canadian Pacific Rail train tracks in Regina. The fact that she compared them to suicide bombers is disgusting. It seeks to discredit the plethora of people and peaceful actions they have taken in solidarity with the Palestinian cause, which are protected under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. It is a dangerous comparison that connects Arabs, Muslims, and solidarity activists as terrorists, a common racist trope. It was civil disobedience, not terror. This type of language has no place in Canada, and Betty should revise the Rights and Laws of Canada since hate speech is prosecutable under Criminal law.
