"While you give the number of Israeli casualties, you completely failed to give the number of Palestinian casualties."

Dear Terry Schintz, Robyn Crawford, and Hana Mae Nassar,
I am writing to express concern about the article: “Hundreds flood Burnaby’s Metrotown Mall to call for a ceasefire in Gaza,” published on December 16 in CityNews Vancouver.
There is one significant issue in your article that makes it unbalanced.
At the very end of your article, you write: “They had been among more than 240 people taken hostage during an attack by Hamas into Israel on Oct. 7 in which around 1,200 people were killed, mostly civilians.”
While you give the number of Israeli casualties, you completely failed to give the number of Palestinian casualties.
According to the Associated Press, as of December 18, 11:48 AM EST, more than 19,400 Palestinians have been killed since Oct. 7.
I, therefore, ask you to add the number of Palestinian casualties to make your article more balanced.
I hope CityNews Vancouver will make this change and mention Palestinian casualties in its future reporting of events regarding the ongoing situation in Gaza.
Sincerely,
Fatima Haidar,
Media Analyst, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East
