"The article correctly notes that the letter referred to the events of October 7 as a 'terrorist act.' However, it significantly downplays the language used by Capital Pride concerning Israel's actions in Gaza. The letter explicitly mentions the 'plausible risk of genocide,' being committed by Israel yet the article refers only to Israel's 'endless and brutal campaign in Gaza,' which is causing the deaths of "innocent Palestinians.'"

Brodie Fenlon, News Editor-in-Chief, CBC News
Dear Ms. Waugh, Mr. Fenlon, and the CBC Newsroom,
I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) to express concern regarding the CBC article titled “Thousands descend on downtown Ottawa for annual Pride parade” published on Aug 25, 2024. Specifically, I wish to address the selective paraphrasing of Capital Pride's recent letter in the article.
The article correctly notes that the letter referred to the events of October 7 as a "terrorist act." However, it significantly downplays the language used by Capital Pride concerning Israel's actions in Gaza. The letter explicitly mentions the "plausible risk of genocide," being committed by Israel yet the article refers only to Israel's "endless and brutal campaign in Gaza," which is causing the deaths of "innocent Palestinians." This inconsistency in language use is concerning as it fails to truly reflect Capital Pride’s letter in solidarity with the Palestinian people. The omission of the term plausible while maintaining reference to October 7th as terrorism marks a double standard, intentional or not, and deserves correction.
I respectfully request that CBC update the article to include the stronger language used by Capital Pride regarding the situation in Gaza, specifically the mention of the "plausible risk of genocide."
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I trust CBC will take the necessary steps to correct this issue and uphold its commitment to accurate and balanced reporting.
Sincerely,
Anthony Issa
