Article should clarify that McGill has already secured another venue for its graduation ceremonies

"During the hearing, lawyers pointed out that because McGill has already secured another venue the "seriousness or irreparable prejudice" criterion of the injunction should be dismissed. The judge agreed with this argument, nodding his head and saying “Bein oui” and McGill did not counter argue."

Dear Editors and Journalists,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East to alert you to an issue with your article(s) related to the ongoing court case involving the McGill Gaza solidarity encampment.

Many media outlets are reporting that if the encampment is not dismantled, McGill will have to pay $700,000 to rent another site for its graduation ceremonies.

However, McGill has already secured the alternate venue (see #78). During the hearing, lawyers pointed out that because McGill has already secured another venue the "seriousness or irreparable prejudice" criterion of the injunction should be dismissed. The judge agreed with this argument, nodding his head and saying “Bein oui” and McGill did not counter argue.

I have personally confirmed this with lawyers involved in the case, and it was publicly broadcast.

Such a critical detail being reported confusingly or in some cases incorrectly has a significant impact on public opinion. The facts are clear, McGill has already secured an alternate venue regardless of what happens with the encampment.

I insist that you update your articles accordingly.

Sincerely,

Jason Toney
