Articles about antisemitism fails to mention APR, but mention antisemitism in articles about APR

"When one digs deeper and looks at every “anti-Palestinian racism” article published since October 7 (23 results), one will find that in almost every case (15 results), it also mentions “antisemitism” or “anti-Semitism”. This represents a double standard."

Dear Dan Taylor, and Michael Stittle,

I am writing to alert you to a double standard in the article “University presidents say there’s more work to do to combat antisemitism on campuses,” written by Canadian Press and published by CTV News on May 27.

While other issues can be pointed out regarding your article, I take foremost issue with your article failing to mention anti-Palestinian racism.

If one does a simple search on your website of the term: “anti-Palestinian racism,” one will find 23 articles published since October 7 mentioning this term. On the other hand, if one searches the term “antisemitism” on your website, more than 381 articles have been published since October 7 mentioning this term. If one searches the term “anti-semitism” on your website, they get 77 results.

When one digs deeper and looks at every “anti-Palestinian racism” article published since October 7 (23 results), one will find that in almost every case (15 results), it also mentions “antisemitism” or “anti-Semitism”. This represents a double standard. Here’s the list:

I ask that in future coverage of antisemitic incidents, you apply the same standard that you apply to articles regarding anti-Palestinian racism. I ask that you mention anti-Palestinian racism in articles about antisemitism/anti-semitism. My organization, CJPME, would be glad to provide a quote for this current article. You can contact Jamila Ewais, the anti-racism researcher for CJPME Foundation’s anti-racism program.

Sincerely,

Fatima Haidar,
