"The report does not discuss the rise in any specific form of hate. Rather, it states, “Incidents related to hate and racism have seen a significant rise globally and nationally.” This statement does not exclude antisemitism, it merely groups it with other forms of hate. No specific statistics are cited in reference to any form of hate, nor is any other form given special attention in the report."

Dear Lila Sarick and Marc Weisblott,
I'm writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East to express concern about the article "Hundreds rallied outside Toronto school board offices to protest a racism report that doesn’t mention antisemitism,” published on June 19, 2024.
The report, Combating Hate and Racism, mentions antisemitism six times. The article itself even notes that antisemitism is mentioned in the report. Your headline is incorrect. Please correct the headline and add an editor’s note that clarifies the report does mention antisemitism.
The article also states that the report fails “to acknowledge rising antisemitism in schools.” The article’s framing suggests that this represents some kind of double standard in the report. However, the report does not discuss the rise in any specific form of hate. Rather, it states, “Incidents related to hate and racism have seen a significant rise globally and nationally.” This statement does not exclude antisemitism, it merely groups it with other forms of hate. No specific statistics are cited in reference to any form of hate, nor is any other form given special attention in the report.
Given all of the above, it is critical that the Canadian Jewish News update this article to reflect these facts. Please let me know how you will proceed.
Sincerely,
Jason Toney
