Thanks for balanced reporting on Israel’s forced displacement of Palestinians in occupied Gaza

"Smotrich’s statements advocating, say, the starvation of 2 million Gazans, is inconvenient for Western politicians—including in Canada— who justify Israel’s atrocities as an act of self-defence. They ignore the fact that most people in Gaza have already been the victims of dispossession and displacement, as well as being blockaded in what’s been described as the world’s largest open-air prison."

Dear Yasmine Hassan and Nancy Waugh,

I want to thank CBC for showing us what displacement looks like for Palestinians in Gaza . The more we witness what is happening in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon, the more difficult it is to accept Israel government narratives. Indeed, Israel’s actions demonstrate not just cruel collective punishment of an entire people, but also suggest that the goal is a Gaza ethnically cleansed of Palestinians. Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has said as much.
Smotrich’s statements advocating, say, the starvation of 2 million Gazans, is inconvenient for Western politicians—including in Canada— who justify Israel’s atrocities as an act of self-defence. They ignore the fact that most people in Gaza have already been the victims of dispossession and displacement, as well as being blockaded in what’s been described as the world’s largest open-air prison. So, I especially appreciate such clear reporting of Palestinian suffering as fact.

I am aware, however, that factual reporting on Israel often incurs threats from pro-Israel actors including Honest Reporting Canada (HRC). Should this story be attacked, I recommend the Canadian Press Freedom Project (https://x.com/jsource/status/1846591300730228757), an excellent resource for journalists targeted by HRC.
Sincerely,

Richard Fung
