"Too often, mainstream coverage relies on passive voice—phrases like “more than 48,000 Palestinians have died in Gaza”—which misleads readers into believing Palestinian deaths occurred in a vacuum. This erasure numbs the public to Israel’s ongoing war crimes and crimes against humanity, reducing Palestinian deaths to mere statistics and shielding Israel from scrutiny and accountability."

Dear CBC team,
I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East to thank you for your article, “Palestinians scramble to hospitals after Israeli airstrikes hit homes, encampments across Gaza.”
At a time when Palestinian perspectives are often omitted entirely, misrepresented, downplayed, or buried at the end of articles, your reporting stands out as a rare and important example of balanced and fair journalism.
I especially appreciated that your headline and subhead line explicitly assigned responsibility to Israel for the horrifying airstrikes that killed more than 400 Palestinians, including 183 children on Tuesday. Too often, mainstream coverage relies on passive voice—phrases like “more than 48,000 Palestinians have died in Gaza”—which misleads readers into believing Palestinian deaths occurred in a vacuum. This erasure numbs the public to Israel’s ongoing war crimes and crimes against humanity, reducing Palestinian deaths to mere statistics and shielding Israel from scrutiny and accountability.
Thank you once again for your balanced and fair reporting. Please continue to do so, despite Honest Reporting Canada’s intimidation tactics and smear campaigns
Best regards,
Lynn Naji
