Re: Time to end military shipments to Israel
To the Editor,
As a media analyst with Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME), I write in support of Gary W. Kenny’s letter, “Time to end military shipments to Israel.” Mr. Kenny is absolutely correct in pointing out that Canada is complicit in arming a state accused of genocide in Gaza.
As outlined by his letter, Canada continues to break its promise on arms to Israel by allowing a $78.8M unregulated artillery propellant contract through the US. This violates the spirit, if not the letter, of the Arms Trade Treaty and Canada’s Export and Import Permits Act.
Canada cannot claim to champion human rights while fueling a military campaign that international experts have described as genocidal.
The time for half-measures and political evasion is over. A full, two-way arms embargo with no loopholes is urgently needed.
Sincerely,
Anthony Issa
