No mention of Israel’s siege on Palestinians in Gaza

"Presented without context, the reporting suggests that the collapse of Gaza’s health care system is occurring in a vacuum. In reality, Israel has been imposing a genocidal siege on Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip for the past 100 days — intensifying a blockade that has been in place since 2008. The Israeli occupation forces have even calculated the minimum caloric intake required to prevent starvation, deliberately restricting aid and conditioning its entry as a form of collective punishment."

To the City News Winnipeg newsroom,

I am contacting you on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East regarding your recent news segment that aired on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 6:48:51.

I want to thank you first for mentioning the controversy behind the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. The matter of fact is that the GHF is set by the U.S. and Israel to further humiliate Palestinians of their inherent right as human beings to food, medicine, and other essential needs of life.

While the segment was overall balanced, I take issue with the lack of context in the following paragraph:

“Health care officials warn that the health care system in the strip has been completely overwhelmed. Only half of Gaza's hospitals are partially functional right now. Medical supplies are critically low, and no fuel has entered the enclave in 100 days.”

Presented without context, the reporting suggests that the collapse of Gaza’s health care system is occurring in a vacuum. In reality, Israel has been imposing a genocidal siege on Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip for the past 100 days — intensifying a blockade that has been in place since 2008. The Israeli occupation forces have even calculated the minimum caloric intake required to prevent starvation, deliberately restricting aid and conditioning its entry as a form of collective punishment.

When media outlets omit that Israel is deliberately blocking aid, it reinforces a dangerous narrative that depoliticizes Palestinian suffering and conceals the deeply imbalanced power dynamics at play: Israel as the occupying power, and Palestinians as a besieged and occupied population.

We urge you to ensure that future coverage includes the essential context of Israel’s ongoing siege on Palestinians in Gaza.
