"The article discusses Iran’s network of proxies, which are widely understood to mean groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis. To lump PYM into the mix is both unfair and inaccurate."

Dear Rob Roberts and Ori Freiman,
I am writing in regards to a false claim in the article, “CUPE has no business cheering for Iran,” published June 27, 2025.
The columnist states that the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) is an “effective proxy for the Iranian regime in Canada.” There’s no evidence to back this claim whatsoever — it also notably lacks a hyperlink citation. It is a fabrication, and a harmful one at that. Mr. Freiman reserves every right to criticize PYM, but inventing explosive falsehoods is a violation of journalistic ethics.
The article discusses Iran’s network of proxies, which are widely understood to mean groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis. To lump PYM into the mix is both unfair and inaccurate.
Given that it is made as a statement of fact, it deserves correction even if in an opinion article. Please let me know if you will make the change, otherwise I will file a formal complaint with a media accountability body.
Regards,
