"‘Ethnic cleansing’ may not be a legal crime but it carries moral weight. Without any commentary or analysis, listeners are led to believe that displacing the Palestinians could be a credible part of a peace process."

Dear City News Tonight Vancouver newsroom,
I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) to express my concerns regarding your news segment that aired on July 8, 2025 at 5:15 a.m. The segment focused on the July 7 meeting at the White House between President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu.
The prospect of a ceasefire is good news indeed and long overdue. However, what was concerning in the news report is that Melissa Nakhavoly repeated Prime Minister Netanyahu’s suggestion that “a new future for Palestinians in neighbouring countries” may be part of a broader regional plan. President Trump expressed similar aspirations in February, when he said that the United States would “take over” the Gaza Strip and that the Palestinian population there would need to be moved out. What both of them are hinting at is an ‘ethnic cleansing’ of the Palestinians from their land not only in Gaza but in the West Bank as well.
‘Ethnic cleansing’ may not be a legal crime but it carries moral weight. Without any commentary or analysis, listeners are led to believe that displacing the Palestinians could be a credible part of a peace process.
I would encourage you to include context from the Palestinian perspective in future reports. It is critical that viewers better understand the reality of what Israel is considering as an ‘end game’ for Palestinians not only in Gaza but also in the West Bank.
Sincerely,
Debbie Hubbard
