Thanks for the segment earlier today on famine in Gaza and call for arms embargo

"Highlighting the voices of Palestinian rights groups in Canada echoing accusations of Israel’s genocide and accusing the Canadian government of complicity by continuing military exports to Israel, as per the recently released research conducted by the Palestinian Youth Movement, World Beyond War, and the Arms Embargo Now campaign, is timely and notable."

Dear CityNews Edmonton newsroom,

I’m writing to you on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME, https://www.cjpme.org) to express appreciation regarding a news segment aired today, on Wednesday July 30, 2025 at 6:40AM.

In particular, your clear acknowledgement of famine in Gaza, backed up by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report, is noted, and this accuracy is appreciated.

Your journalistic skepticism of Israel’s denial of starvation policies was demonstrated adequately by including perspectives from a former Israeli leader, Israeli civil society and Israeli human rights groups - although including Palestinian voices as well would have made the coverage even stronger, more diverse and balanced.

Lastly, highlighting the voices of Palestinian rights groups in Canada echoing accusations of Israel’s genocide and accusing the Canadian government of complicity by continuing military exports to Israel, as per the recently released research conducted by the Palestinian Youth Movement, World Beyond War, and the Arms Embargo Now campaign, is timely and notable. Many concerned Canadians, myself included, have been advocating to our MPs for a full and immediate two-way arms embargo.

Please continue to ensure fair, balanced, and accurate coverage on this issue in future work.

Sincerely,

Alison Jenkins
