Concerns re your Global Morning News broadcast - July 29

"The absence of any critical comment on Israel’s actions was not only disappointing but irresponsible. What is happening to Palestinians demands journalism that prioritizes facts over false equivalence."

Dear Global News Morning BC broadcasting team,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) regarding the segment broadcast on July 29 on Global News Morning BC at approximately 6:15 AM.

My key concern with the news segment is that Prime Minister Netanyahu’s statements are unchallenged.

That Israel is implementing a ‘policy of starvation’ in Gaza and that Palestinians in Gaza are starving are facts not accusations. The segment treats PM Netanyahu’s denial of responsibility without question leading the viewer to believe that his claims are legitimate.

The segment could have provided evidence and facts from reputable and unbiased sources such as the World Health Organization and the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification. They have clearly identified what is happening on the ground in Gaza and called it for what it is  - a man made famine caused by Israel blocking aid from entering and preventing aid organizations from doing their work.

Providing context, accuracy and balance are standards for responsible journalism. The absence of any critical comment on Israel’s actions was not only disappointing but irresponsible. What is happening to Palestinians demands journalism that prioritizes facts over false equivalence. I urge you to rectify these omissions in future news segments.

Sincerely,

Debbie Hubbard
