Appreciation of yesterday's article "No two sides to genocide"

I particularly appreciated the naming of Israel’s actions as genocide, the clear explanation of the conflation of antisemitism and anti-Zionism, and the acknowledgement of the draconian protest bubble bylaws being applied around the country as a direct attempt to suppress pro-Palestine organizing under the pretext of preventing antisemitism.

Dear Briarpatch Magazine editorial team and Ms. Lippman,

I’m writing to you on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME, https://www.cjpme.org) to express appreciation regarding the article titled “No two sides to genocide” published on August 5, 2025.

Overall, the article’s moral clarity and honesty — presented through a progressive Jewish perspective — made it especially impactful. Of note, I particularly appreciated the naming of Israel’s actions as genocide, the clear explanation of the conflation of antisemitism and anti-Zionism, and the acknowledgement of the draconian protest bubble bylaws being applied around the country as a direct attempt to suppress pro-Palestine organizing under the pretext of preventing antisemitism.

It was also extremely helpful to bring attention to the moral inversion — both in the media and in political discourse — of disproportionate attention to Jewish fear of antisemitism in the midst of a genocide against Palestinians.

I encourage Briarpatch Magazine to continue to highlight progressive Jewish voices, as well as Palestinian voices, as we work to collectively draw attention to perspectives and movements that are often sidelined in Canadian mainstream media.

Sincerely,

Alison Jenkins
