"I want to amplify her call to let the international press into Gaza. It’s no secret why Israel wants to keep them out, as they have done for decades during their deadly attacks on Gaza - to try and eliminate documentation of their atrocities."
Dear Margaret Shkimba and the Editorial team,
I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) regarding the opinion piece “Let the world's media into Gaza” by Margaret Shkimba published on August 26, 2025.
I want to thank you for publishing this long overdue article. I could not agree more with everything it expresses so articulately. I applaud Gaza’s brave journalists and image makers working in hellish conditions we can not even imagine. I want to acknowledge that Ms. Shkimba’s piece recognizes this while much of Western media suppresses Palestinian perspectives and stands silently by as their fellow journalists are murdered by Israel in Gaza.
I want to amplify her call to let the international press into Gaza. It’s no secret why Israel wants to keep them out, as they have done for decades during their deadly attacks on Gaza - to try and eliminate documentation of their atrocities.
Perhaps if our own journalists were allowed into Gaza and witnessed the genocide first-hand, they might not be so keen to publish Israeli lies and propaganda. In doing so, they would at least avoid the complicity in genocide that their silence and selective reporting currently represents.
Thank you for this important article.
