While the author allows Canadian politicians to vent outrage at the “heinous terrorist attacks” of Oct. 7th, there is not a syllable acknowledging the two years of genocide endured by Palestinians. For 735 days we saw 735 relentless massacres of innocents in Gaza. This fact cannot be left out of the article if you are going to mention October 7th multiple times.
Dear Newsroom of the Canadian Press,
I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) regarding the report “Carney attends Gaza peace deal signing in Egypt, praises release of hostages” by Anja Karadeglija and published by The Canadian Press on October 13, 2025.
I want to thank you for this report which does a great job in revealing the one sided “concern” of our leaders in Canada and abroad. It’s quite shocking to note the level of deference paid to Israel and barely a mention of the Palestinian suffering after two years of genocide committed by Israel against them.
Unfortunately, the Canadian Press seems to follow in lockstep with our government when publishing articles like this that give very little, if any, word count for the far greater suffering of Palestinians.
For instance the line, “The gathering comes as Hamas released 20 remaining living Israeli hostages and Israel started to free hundreds of Palestinians from its prisons.” could use some crucial additional context.
It should be noted that the 1700 Palestinians slated to be released were grabbed illegally from the streets of Gaza and were held without charge - essentially hostages - in retribution for Oct. 7th. They have suffered barbaric conditions, enduring the cruelest treatment for almost 2 years including what amounts to systematic physical torture, psychological terror during interrogation and dehumanization.
It is the primary duty of the news media to monitor power, not reinforce it.
I ask, in the name of balance and impartiality, that Canadian Press amend this article to respect the “other” side of this story.
Thank you for reading and I look forward to your response.
Jeff Winch
