An omission like this amounts to blatant dehumanization of Palestinians and serves the interests of Israel rather than the truth. This is precisely the kind of reporting that deceives Canadians and enables complicity in a horrific genocide. 70,000 Palestinians have been slaughtered, children have been starved to death and 2 million Palestinians are living in tents and rubble with barely enough food and water. In the face of this all, CityNews continues to report heavily on Israelis and their concerns.

Dear Editors and Producers of CHMI City News.
I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) regarding the news segment on Tuesday morning at approximately 6:10 AM reported by Erica Natividad.
Ms. Natividad has once again presented a biased unbalanced report that violates journalistic standards and ethics. This is a story about a conflict that has two sides. Reporting this skewed is unacceptable.
Throughout the piece there is no voice given to the Palestinian perspective nor is there any mention of the Palestinian “prisoners” and their suffering.
There were 2000 Palestinians released as part of the ceasefire deal (many tortured and maimed) so why is CityNews ignoring them entirely and focusing only on 13 remaining Israeli bodies?
Meanwhile, hundreds of Palestinians are tortured and killed in Israeli prisons, which is entirely ignored in this segment. This is no justification for this gross omission, unless of course one sees Palestinians as having no value. The erasure of Palestinian suffering is a form of anti-Palestinian racism, as defined by the Arab Canadian Lawyers Assocation (ACLA).
Israeli voices are given clear prominence throughout this report. An Israeli spokesperson, Shosh Bedrosian, is allowed to speak and express Israel’s perspective on Israeli body recovery. Then an emphatic segment (about half of the run time) on Israelis mourning their own Yossi Sharabi with his brother and Israeli President Isaac Herzog both being given screen time so we may empathize with their loss. Critically, it is omitted that Yossi Sharabi was killed by an Israeli airstrike. This is essential context, because Israel’s genocidal campaign put the lives of Israelis in Gaza at risk.
CJPME is alarmed by the many instances in which Ms. Natividad has omitted Palestinian perspectives. CityNews must strive to respect basic journalistic standards and ethics.
Thank you for reading and I look forward to your response.
