By ignoring these statistics and providing estimates from an unnamed “local health official” far below the data attributed to the local government, you are downplaying the severity of Israel’s near daily violations and perpetuating the U.S.-Israeli narrative that this is an actual ceasefire.
To the CTV News Editors,
I am writing regarding your recent article, "Israel launches airstrike in southern Gaza after earlier attack by militants wounded 5 soldiers" published on December 3, 2025. The article provides conflicting and misleading statements that obscure the reality that Israel continues to commit war crimes in Gaza despite the so-called ceasefire.
In the AP article, it states: "The strike was the latest test for a fragile ceasefire that has mostly held up since early October."
According to the Government Media Office in Gaza, since the declaration of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip on October 10, 2025, Israel has violated the ceasefire agreement at least 591 times from October 10 to December 2. To be even more specific, the office also states that Israel shot at civilians 164 times, raided residential areas beyond the “yellow line” 25 times, bombed and shelled Gaza 280 times, and demolished people’s properties on 118 occasions. It added that Israel had also detained 35 Palestinians from Gaza over the past month.
By ignoring these statistics and providing estimates from an unnamed “local health official” far below the data attributed to the local government, you are downplaying the severity of Israel’s near daily violations and perpetuating the U.S.-Israeli narrative that this is an actual ceasefire.
In reality, nothing changed on the ground for Palestinians after October 10, 2025. Israel continues to herd Palestinians into smaller and smaller concentration camps, attack by air, artillery and direct shootings, block vital humanitarian aid and destroy homes and infrastructure across the Strip.
Additionally, by framing it as: “Strikes killed 104 people in late October and 33 people in late November, according to local health official,” you have effectively neutralized murder. Strikes didn’t kill people. The genocidal apartheid regime called Israel dropped bombs on civilians who have been displaced several times over the past two years and are living in tents amidst the rubble in order to kill them.
Just yesterday, six Palestinians, including two children, were killed by an Israeli drone strike on a displacement tent in Al-Mawasi area of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip. In light of the terror we continue to see Isreal perpetrate online, the deduction that a “fragile ceasefire has mostly held up” could only be made by someone who doesn’t value a Palestinian life.
It is really shocking that after two years of watching the horror that Israel is inflicting on Palestinian civilians that our Canadian media is still whitewashing their crimes. I implore you to update the numbers, cite the Government Media Office in Gaza and name the perpetrator of the killings directly.
Sincerely,
Nikki Mutch
