Thank you for your June 27th piece, Israeli drone strike kills Palestinian siblings in a Gaza tent camp by Wafaa Shurafa.
With so many other atrocities taking place around the world, it is important not to forget that despite the “ceasefire,” Israel continues to bombard helpless people in Gaza without repercussions. That 1,030 people, 250 of whom are children, have so far been slaughtered during this ceasefire, testifies to a particularly Orwellian notion of “ceasefire.”
The Israel military’s account that “it was not aware of uninvolved civilians being harmed,” strains credulity. Are we to believe that a 15-year-old girl is a dangerous Hamas militant, or is it that an army that can apparently identify a Hamas militant in the middle of a squalid tent city is unaware that there are other people around? Likewise, Israel’s denials that it is committing genocide in Gaza in the face of the UN report that its army is deliberately shooting children in the besieged territory would be laughable if it were not so tragic.

In fact, the genocide, the displacement and slaughter of Palestinians by the high-tech Israeli army, has been ongoing for three quarters of a century. The statistics you report on Palestinian deaths in Gaza is only the latest installment.
