Thank you for outlining demands of Oct 10 protest

We also appreciate that the article clearly outlined the protest’s four main demands: a two-way arms embargo, sanctions against Israel, the closure of Quebec’s office in Tel Aviv, and the release of all Palestinian political prisoners.

To Radio Canada,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East to thank you for publishing the article titled: “Thousands of people demonstrate in support of Palestinians in Montreal.”

The article is balanced, includes pro-Palestinian perspectives, and provides the context needed to understand why people from all sectors of society took to the streets of Montreal on Saturday – to commemorate the 3-year mark since the start of Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza, in which more than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli forces.

We especially appreciate that the article interviewed a spokesperson from the organizers of the protest, as well as one of the speakers Bertrand Guibord (president of the Central Council of Metropolitan Montreal–CSN (CCMM–CSN)) and gave him space to emphasize that denouncing a state is not the same as denouncing a people. Indeed, criticizing the state of Israel is not antisemitic.

We also appreciate that the article clearly outlined the protest’s four main demands: a two-way arms embargo, sanctions against Israel, the closure of Quebec’s office in Tel Aviv, and the release of all Palestinian political prisoners.

We encourage you to continue including pro-Palestinian perspectives in your coverage, giving space to their demands and providing the necessary context for readers to understand why they are protesting.
